Camp Chronicles - Issue #6

The Latest News In The Camp Community

Hey everyone,

I am writing to the crew from BASE CAMP!

Week one has officially started. It’s been incredible to see tons of new and familiar faces. I’m excited to see how the week unfolds :)

Anyways, here are the wins both on-site at Base Camp and in the wider community this week!

Community Vlog #4- meeting internet friends

CAMPERS TAKE ON NYC 🌆

This week our friend Danny Destanik put on an event in NYC called “Meet the Creators.” A bunch of members from the camp community were featured at the event and got the opportunity to display some of their work/talents.

@Isabella Hurlburt is an incredible artist who primarily works on pieces that display emotion or as she describes “big feelings”. She had the opportunity to live to paint a couch chair during the event.

Some other friends of ours were also featured as part of the “behind the profile” and interviewed on the creator culture podcast.

@Grace Wells - An amazing creator who we met early last year. She produces S-Tier commercials practically all by herself. She’s also a linguistics major, which is a fancy way of saying that Grace has a way with words. She could definitely write a better newsletter than me :)
@Zahra Hussain - One of the best VFX creators we know who will one day create a music video with Billie Elish. Fun fact Zahra has a 3-year-old Parrot called Luna.
@Alex Robinson - A creator we met through @368 who kinda of looks like our other friend Elle Mills. Alex is an incredibly talented director and creative visionary. In fact, she is producing & directing a TV show on YouTube called Bare Minimum.
@Gabe Desanti - A friend I was introduced to through Dan Mace. Gabe is such a solid dude and has seen tremendous growth on social this year. He runs a TikTok show called “Clocking In” and he rides a Super73.

Camp x Vidcon Baltimore 📍🍁

Immediately following the “Meet The Creators” event in NYC was VidCon Baltimore.

We feel extremely honored to have had the opportunity to host a ~Creator Camp panel at VidCon this year. Big shout out to Nate GL who runs Powder Blue Media for helping set this up.

Our co-founder Max Reisinger along with Anthony Po, Alex Robinson, and Nate GL, dived a bit deeper into the New Wave.

Sky Premieres Her Documentary 🎥

Base Camp started this week and on the first night our new friend Sky Cowans, an exceptional storyteller, premiered her latest video. It’s a documentary that explores the story of Melanie, a woman who claims to have been abducted by Aliens multiple times when she was a child.

Of course, this is a topic that is very nuanced and many have the initial instinct to write off. People often jump to the conclusion that the person who claims to be abducted or have an encounter with Aliens is crazy. However, Sky does an incredible job of exploring the topic in a way that allows her audience to be open to learning more about Melanie’s story without jumping to conclusions. We highly recommend checking out her video!

Artists on The Rise 🔥

Iverson Smith is a photographer based out of Bend, Oregon. We recently met Ivy and were surprised to learn that he’s only picked up a camera a year ago. If you check out his work you’ll probably think the same.

Iverson is out here for the week helping us as the main photographer for Base Camp Week One. However, he is also attending as an attendee next week. Iverson has an energy to him that you don’t encounter often. He’s got a way with the camera but he also has a way with people. We’ve got a strong feeling that our new friend is gonna be well on his way :)

For those interested here is his website if you wanna check out his work.

Some Fun Extra Things & Opportunities 🙌

  • It’s our good friend Brian's Birthday he’s been leading the way on the Camp Strava! Happy Birthday, Brian - much love brutha!

  • Brooke Cormier posted a Garden Update!

  • We’re also seeking additional support over at Creator Camp if anyone is interested in a 3-month internship. Feel free to fill out this form.

  • We started a Creator Camp running club through Strava. Last week our winner was Max R with 21 km - you can sign up and run with us here!

Collectibles! We have ~15 extra hoodies from Camp 2.0 that we won’t be restocking. They’ve been sitting at my house for some time so we thought we’d put them out in the world along with a “more than content” poster featuring Needle Rock Lodge.

Thanks for the constant support & positive feedback around this blog.

Much love,
Chris & CC Team
