Camp Chronicles - Issue #5

The Latest News In The Camp Community

Hey everyone!

Writing to the crew from a new location today… the University of Austin Texas Library. More specifically, the 5th floor of the library.

Guys, we are one week away from Base Camp! I am extremely excited. We’ve never done a 2-week experience but I can’t wait to meet everyone!

Here are the wins in the community this week!

Camp Vlog #3- this week has been hard

Onto the Next Adventure 🚗

Kyle Offut one of our close friends has been living out of his car (pop tart) for over a year. This car has taken Kyle all across the country and has been with him all throughout his journey as a creator.

Our co-founder Ryan Ng often uses the phrase Building Your World. I personally interpret this phrase as designing your life to your liking. Living out of your car isn’t for everyone.

However, I remember Kyle sharing in a podcast that for him it’s ideal. He gets to travel, see incredible landscapes, and wake up in a new place multiple times a week. He built his world and made his dream life a reality.

Kyle has grit. He’s posted consistently for almost 2 years! He’s uploaded over 1,000 videos and in that time his videos have resonated with millions.

A few months ago Kyle crossed the 100,000 subscriber milestone on YouTube. Kyle's adventurous lifestyle means he’s frequently on the road traveling around and because of that he hasn’t been home to open his gift from YouTube, the silver play button.

This week Kyle’s car unfortunately broke down and he was forced to sell it. At the same time, he got to go home and open his gift from YouTube. He also crossed the 100,000 mark on Instagram.

In the same week that Kyle had to say goodbye to the car that’s been with him on every adventure he also achieved two major milestones. It’s symbolic of a chapter closing and a new one starting. A new exciting journey lies ahead.

Kyle even purchased a new Van this week. He calls it Blue Bird. Congratulations on everything Kyle it’s been an honor to grow alongside you!

Creative Juice Happy Hour 🥂

Our friends at Creative Juice are doing their company off-site here in Austin, TX, and thought it would be fun to host a little Happy Hour event.

They invited a bunch of creators in Austin to a local underground spot called The Garage.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Creative Juice is a company that helps creators with their finances. They supported our last event and we’ve become good friends with their team.

In fact, Isaiah Shepard aka Steezy Kane is doing a live panel with them on the 28th of this Month. The team and I were planning on joining to surprise & support him. Everyone is welcome to tune in with us!

Thank you, Sima, Collen, Kimmie, as well as the rest of the Creative Juice team for inviting us.

Chris’ Corn[er] 🌽

Guys I have exciting news, this week my corn has grown 20 cm.

If you’ve been following the vlogs you know I’ve been growing corn at our new home in Austin.

I’ve never grown crops before. In fact, I remember watching my parent’s garden back in the day and thinking “who the heck would wanna do this”.

Flash forward 15 years and here I am watering my garden every morning…

Let’s make something clear. Nurturing a living thing is by no means an easy feat. I’m realizing it takes a lot of care and patience.

But I’ve actually learned quite a few things from watching these small but mighty plants grow:

Don’t Snub The Startups

I planted my corn seeds into these little pellets that are designed to help them grow and protect the plant during the first few days after germination. As I was getting ready to transplant my little seedlings to a larger garden, one of my seedlings fell.

All the soil that encased this little guy fell apart as it hit the wooden floor. I was left with a dirty floor and a seedling. In this moment I lost all hope in my little friend. Not expecting much I planted him anyway. Today, despite taking a big hit, that seedling has grown to be the tallest of the crew.

This resilient little plant taught me that even if you had a bad start, maybe even an unfair start. Your starting position doesn’t necessarily dictate where you’ll end up.

Some Fun Extra Things & Opportunities 🙌

  • Our good friend Ami who runs VERCI in NYC had his birthday last week! Happy Birthday, Ami!

  • Rachel (Sunnray) posted a video about her Summer alone in Alaska

  • Alex Robinson, Grace Wells, Nate GL, Anthony Po, and Max Reisinger will be speaking at Vidcon Baltimore this week!

  • We’re also seeking additional support over at Creator Camp if anyone is interested in a 3-month internship. Feel free to fill out this form.

  • Collectibles! We have ~20 extra hoodies from Camp 2.0 that we won’t be restocking. They’ve been sitting at my house for some time so we thought we’d put them out in the world along with a “more than content” poster featuring Needle Rock Lodge.

Thanks for the constant support & positive feedback around this blog.

Much love,
Chris & CC Team
